the SafetySpan Flooring System

... is a complete line of construction components that are assembled on-site and in-place to create permanent structural floors in multi-storied buildings.

These floors are durable steel structures connected directly to the building’s load-bearing skeleton.

SafetySpan's high-tech space frame design provides the maximum strength to weight ratio available, while its unique modular construction eliminates the high cost normally associated with such sophisticated solutions.

A SafetySpan floor can bear tenant loads equal to or greater than conventional concrete floors, and offers significant advantages over competing flooring technologies in the areas of safety, economy, ease-of-use, architectural flexibility and environmental sustainability

“The significantly reduced weight of the SafetySpan system, coupled with its multiply-redundant and flexible connection points to the building's structure, greatly reduces the potential for progressive collapse as well as the risk of debris to both tenants and emergency responders in the event of catastrophic failure.”
                                         - Frank DeFalco P.E. PhD

A building made with SafetySpan floors is stronger, lighter, and significantly more resistant to structural failure than buildings made with conventional concrete or steel decking.

A SafetySpan floor can stand up to the deadly effects of high winds, earthquakes, and even explosive attacks that would shatter conventional concrete structures. Moreover, the tight integration of the floor into a building’s steel skeleton strengthens and protects its structural members from fire and collapse, both reducing the risk of collapse and lengthening the time for evacuation and emergency response.

“There is a critical need to evaluate the progressive collapse vulnerability of different structural system design concepts and to develop new system concepts that are effective in mitigating progressive collapse under multiple threat scenarios.”
                                       - Dr. H.S. Lew, National Institute of Standards and Technology

Most critically, the SafetySpan system eliminates the potential for progressive collapse, a deadly form of structural failure in which localized failures cascade to result in disproportionate collapse damage.

Identified as a critical concern to both public and private sector institutions, progressive collapse was a key focus of the recent NIST report on the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on September 11th , 2001. This report calls for new technologies to address progressive failure, as well as improved survivability and fire protection.
